The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) Green Team recently visited Waste Pro, the campus’ recycler. Located a short drive from the GWCCA campus, Waste Pro recycles an average of 300 tons of waste every day. They receive single-stream recyclables from both residential and commercial sources and are in production 24 hours per day, 5 days per week. They recycle up to 15 tons per hour, which is hard to imagine (think big!). With their 380,000 square foot facility, Waste Pro handles recycling for Atlanta Public Schools, City of Atlanta residential, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport as well as the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) and Georgia Dome. They are the largest recycler in the state of Georgia.
In FY 12, the GWCCA campus diverted 1,349 tons of material from landfills through recycling (paper, glass, aluminum, plastic, pallets, cardboard, grease, other materials), composting and food donations.
