Last week (July 19th) members of the GWCCA’s Green Team went to see where our recycling goes after it leaves our venues. We visited SP Recycling in Forest Park and took a tour of the facility along with staff from Georgia State University, Waste Management and Sustainable Atlanta.
SP works round the clock almost every single day of the year, and it is really impressive to see all the recyclables sorted and baled. A bale of plastic weighs approximately 1,400 lb.
In FY11, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority recycled over 155 tons of single-stream waste.
